If you’ve ever felt that uncomfortable ‘fire’ in your chest after a meal or struggled with persistent bloating, you know how disruptive digestive issues can be. While many of us have been conditioned to reach for a quick-fix antacid, nature offers a gentler, more sustainable path to relief.

This Ginger-Fennel Tea is more than just a warm drink; it’s a functional ritual. Ginger is a powerful prokinetic that helps your stomach empty faster—reducing the time food (and acid) sits in your gut—while Fennel seeds act as an antispasmodic to relax the intestinal muscles and prevent gas buildup.

Whether you are in the US, Europe, or India, these two kitchen staples are globally accessible tools for anyone looking to support their gut health naturally. Best of all? It takes less than 5 minutes to brew.

Equipment

  • 1 Fine Mesh Strainer
  • 1 Glass Electric Kettle
  • 1 Stone Mortar and Pestle

Ingredients

  • 1 inch knob Fresh Ginger Thinly Sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Fennel Seeds (Saunf) Lightly Crushed
  • 2 cups Filtered Water
  • 1 slice Lemon Optional

Instructions

  • Wash the ginger and slice it into thin rounds (no need to peel if it's organic).
  • Lightly crush the fennel seeds using a mortar and pestle or the back of a spoon to release the essential oils.
  • Add 2 cups of filtered water to a small saucepan or electric kettle and bring it to a rolling boil.
  • Turn off the heat (or reduce to a very low simmer) and add the ginger slices and crushed fennel seeds.
  • Cover the pot with a lid to trap the beneficial steam and volatile oils.
  • Let the tea steep for 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Note for Readers: Steep for 3 minutes for a gentle flavor, or 5 minutes for a stronger, more therapeutic "medicinal" brew.
  • Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve into your favorite mug.
  • Add a slice of lemon or a drop of Manuka honey if desired, and sip slowly while warm.

Notes

For best results, drink this 30 minutes after a meal to support the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES) and prevent backflow, as explained in our Acid Reflux Healing Guide.

If you cannot find whole fennel seeds at your local grocer, you can substitute with two organic Fennel tea bags. However, for the best digestive results, the oils released from freshly crushed seeds are far more potent for calming the gut.
